A business letter that comes across well
Put your business name, address, phone and email at the top, plus your KKF (Chamber of Commerce) number and tax number (FIN) if you have them. Below that the recipient's name and address, place and date ("Paramaribo, 25 October 2026") and a short subject line.
- Open with "Dear Mr Pinas," or "Dear Ms Lie," when you know the name, otherwise "Dear Sir or Madam,".
- State the request or decision in the first paragraph and the explanation after it.
- Close with "Kind regards," and your name and title. For a government office, sign by hand or add your signature as an image.
- Save the letter as a PDF so the layout stays the same, also on a phone.
A helpful tool, not tax or legal advice. Check important amounts.
Frequently asked questions
Must a letter to the government be in Dutch?
Dutch is Suriname's official language and the normal language for letters to ministries, the tax office and the KKF. English is usually read too, but a Dutch letter tends to move faster.
