Pump price over time
We have recorded the pump price every day since 26 October 2026. The chart appears once there is a week of data. While the price cap applies, the price usually stays the same.
How the pump price is made up
Part of the fuel comes from Staatsolie's refinery at Tout Lui Faut and part is imported. Either way the pump price follows the world market and is reckoned in dollars. Three things decide what you pay:
- The world price of refined fuel. It moves with crude oil such as Brent, with its own refining margin. Diesel became relatively expensive in 2026 because of disruption in the Middle East.
- The exchange rate. A dearer dollar makes every litre dearer in SRD. See Exchange rates today.
- Tax and the government component. Fuel carries 10% VAT. The price also contains a government component; under the price cap the state uses it to carry part of the increase itself.
The price cap: where things stand
Since 17 March 2026 pump prices have been held at a ceiling. The state pays the difference with the market price. On 13 October 2026 that was SRD 11 to 16 per litre of unleaded and SRD 16 to 21 per litre of diesel, depending on the company, according to President Simons. With Brent above USD 110 a barrel in October 2026, the gap is widening. In October 2026 both the President and Oil, Gas and Environment Minister Brunings said the arrangement cannot last in the long run. No end date or phase-out plan has been announced.
What it means for your business
- Budget for two scenarios. Draw up your 2027 budget with today's price and with the price without the cap. For a business that buys 400 litres of diesel a month the difference is SRD 6,000 to 8,600 a month, depending on the company.
- Put a fuel clause in longer contracts. Transport, construction, tenders and fixed services: agree that the price moves with the pump price above a set threshold.
- Price your trips and deliveries properly. Use the Trip and delivery cost and use the price without the cap when quotes stay valid for more than a few months.
- Deduct the VAT. If you are VAT-registered, ask for an invoice in the company's name at every fill-up. See VAT in Suriname.
- Measure your use. A fuel card with a statement per vehicle shows where the money goes. GOw2, for example, offers a business fuel card.
Fuel and the oil from Block 58
From 2028 Suriname will produce offshore oil in the GranMorgu project. That oil is exported, not refined in Suriname, so the pump price will keep following the world market. What does change is the state's income. Read more in Oil money and business and Oil and gas.

Frequently asked questions
What does petrol cost in Suriname today?
The top of this page shows today's GOw2 pump price in SRD per litre for unleaded and diesel. We check it every 30 minutes. Other companies can differ slightly.
What is the fuel price cap?
Since 17 March 2026 the government has kept pump prices below the level that matches the world market price. The state covers the difference through a government component in the price. In October 2026 the president said the arrangement cannot last in the long run; no end date has been announced.
How much would fuel cost without the cap?
On 13 October 2026 President Simons gave the prices without the cap: diesel SRD 69.00 to 74.76 and unleaded SRD 58.99 to 64.66 per litre, depending on the company. That is SRD 11 to 21 a litre more than at the pump.
How much VAT is there on fuel?
Fuel falls under the standard VAT rate of 10%. A VAT-registered business can deduct the VAT on fuel bought for the business if it holds a proper invoice.
Why does the pump price rise when the oil price rises?
Fuel is partly imported and partly refined by Staatsolie, but it is priced in dollars. The pump price therefore follows the world price of refined products, the dollar rate and the government component. While the cap applies, the state absorbs part of any increase.
